Silent
Companion paintings
are a European decorative
art form which is more
than three hundred years
old. From the 17th
to the 19th century,
artists surprised and
delighted their patrons
with life-size figures
painted with vivid
realism on wood panels
cut as flat silhouettes.
The most outstanding
examples were portraits
of actual people or
pets. Working
life-size in oil on
hard wood that is cut
to the figure's outline,

revives this centuries
